Volunteers help with many different tasks, from cleaning rooms, gardening and assisting in the kitchen to reception work, answering emails and improving written English. There are also opportunities to support an ongoing art project on the guesthouse walls, help with room renovation, web design, SEO and social media promotion. Part of the income from the guesthouse and camel safaris supports grassroots projects in nearby villages, including youth education, health and hygiene, skills training and basic English lessons for children who might not otherwise attend school. Volunteers usually help about 6 hours per day, 5 days per week, and receive vegetarian meals and shared accommodation in the guesthouse or desert camp. Free time can be spent exploring Bikaner’s temples and markets or enjoying the Thar Desert landscapes. The main season runs roughly from September to April.
