The Castello della Pietra is located in Vobbia, in the Liguria region of Italy, within the Antola Natural Park. It is built between two large rock spurs, in a dramatic position overlooking the valley below. It likely dates back to the 11th century, with the first official document mentioning it in 1252. The name comes from Opizzone della Pietra, a local nobleman.
Over the centuries, the castle was controlled by various noble families, including the Spinola. After the feudal system ended in the late 18th century, it was abandoned and fell into ruin. It has been restored in recent times and is now open to visitors on weekends from April to October. The path to reach it is short but requires suitable footwear: it starts from the provincial road and takes about 20 minutes on foot.
Inside, you can still see halls, staircases carved into the rock, cisterns, and remains of fireplaces. The view from the top is wide and impressive. For the latest information on opening hours and tickets, you can visit the website of the Antola Park.
