Quinta da Bazágueda is a remote family farm in Serra da Malcata Natural Reserve, central Portugal, offering a real farm life experience.
Volunteers help around 4–5 hours per day, 5 days a week, mainly with building an electric fence to protect goats, sheep and cows, plus simple animal care, gardening and forestry tasks. In exchange, you receive shared rustic accommodation in an old stone farmhouse and three daily meals with homemade countryside food. The farm is almost self sufficient and very isolated, so this project suits people who enjoy quiet places, physical outdoor work and simple living. Families with children are welcome, as the hosts also have two sons. Free time is usually spent hiking in the hills, relaxing by the river and visiting nearby villages and viewpoints. There is no fee to join, but volunteers may need to cover some dinners or special diet items.
