Explore yard work volunteer opportunities involving practical outdoor maintenance around homes, community spaces, rural properties and other projects. Tasks may include clearing vegetation, raking leaves, weeding, trimming, mowing or maintaining paths and outdoor areas.
Yard work often overlaps with gardening and general maintenance, but it does not necessarily involve growing food or caring for cultivated plants.
What is yard work? ๐ฟ๐งน
Yard work means routine practical care of the outdoor areas around a house or property. It can include mowing, raking, trimming vegetation, removing weeds or branches, clearing paths and keeping outdoor spaces tidy. Gardening focuses more specifically on cultivating and caring for plants, while landscaping may involve designing or substantially changing an outdoor space.
Volunteering with yard work
Tasks vary according to the property and season. Volunteers may rake leaves, clear overgrown areas, prune simple vegetation, move garden materials, maintain paths or help prepare outdoor spaces for other activities.
Some tasks may involve lawnmowers, trimmers, ladders or other tools. Ask which equipment volunteers are expected to use and what instruction and protective equipment are provided.
How to use this page
Check the publication date and confirm the current outdoor tasks, working hours, physical requirements, supervision, accommodation, meals, minimum stay and any fees or other costs directly with the host.
A project should only appear in this archive when yard maintenance forms a genuine part of the volunteer role. Simply having a garden, lawn or outdoor space on the property is not sufficient.
Publication on Voluntouring.org does not constitute verification or endorsement of a host, working conditions or safety arrangements.
