What is tattoo art? 🎨
Tattooing is a form of body art in which designs are applied to the skin, usually by inserting pigments with specialised equipment. Tattoo traditions exist in many cultures and may have artistic, personal, social or ceremonial meanings. Contemporary tattooing also involves drawing, illustration, design and technical skills. Applying permanent tattoos requires appropriate training, hygiene procedures and compliance with local regulations.
Tattoo art and volunteer exchanges
Depending on the project, volunteers may contribute illustrations, graphic design, artistic workshops, cultural documentation or other creative activities related to tattooing. Some hosts may seek experienced tattoo artists for more specialised roles.
Tattooing people is different from ordinary artistic volunteering. It carries infection risks and should only be performed by suitably trained and legally authorised practitioners in appropriate conditions. Untrained volunteers should not be expected to practise tattooing on other people.
