Voluntouring.org mainly features volunteering and work exchangesA work exchange is an arrangement in which a traveller contributes an agreed amount of help to a host in return for benefits such as accommodation, meals or learning opportunities. Conditions vary by host., but occasionally publishes paid job opportunities relevant to international travellers. Some older announcements in this archive may have expired or may describe arrangements that are not conventional employment.
What is a summer job? ☀️💼
A summer job is temporary paid employment carried out during the summer season. Common examples include fruit harvesting, hotel and restaurant work, tour guiding, outdoor recreation, summer camp staffing and seasonal tourism services. Unlike an unpaid volunteer exchange, a summer job should provide wages or clearly defined financial compensation and follow the employment rules applicable in the destination country.
Summer jobs and volunteer exchanges
A summer job is not the same as summer volunteering. Some projects offer accommodation or meals in exchange for help, while others provide pocket money, a stipend or reimbursement of expenses. These benefits do not automatically constitute a salary.
For paid work, ask how compensation is calculated, whether payment is guaranteed, and whether accommodation, food or other costs will be deducted. Summer hiring periods also vary between countries, particularly between the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
How to use this page
Check the publication date, application deadline and working period. Before accepting an offer, confirm the salary or wage, expected hours, days off, employment contract, accommodation, meals, transport, insurance and any fees or deductions directly with the employer.
Paid work abroad may require an appropriate visa or work permit, even for short-term employment. Check the legal requirements for your nationality and destination before making travel arrangements.
