What is sociocracy? 🗣️🤝
Sociocracy is a method of organising groups and making decisions through consent, clearly defined responsibilities and interconnected working circles. A proposal can move forward when there are no reasoned objections related to the group’s aims. Unlike consensus, consent does not require everyone to consider a proposal their preferred solution. Feedback and regular reviews help groups improve decisions over time. Learn more from Sociocracy For All.
Sociocracy in community life
Sociocracy is used by some intentional communities, cooperatives and educational organisations to distribute responsibilities and involve members in decisions. For example, Arterra Bizimodu in Spain describes sociocracy as part of its community governance.
Volunteering in a sociocratic community does not necessarily mean facilitating meetings or having decision-making authority. Ask whether guests can attend community circles, receive training or participate in organisational discussions.
