Explore Reiki volunteering opportunities and work exchangesA work exchange is an arrangement in which a traveller contributes an agreed amount of help to a host in return for benefits such as accommodation, meals or learning opportunities. Conditions vary by host. connected with retreat centres, wellness projects and spiritual communities where Reiki forms part of the activities or experience.
Some places offer Reiki sessions or workshops alongside yoga, meditation and other wellness practices. Others may welcome volunteers with experience in Reiki. The actual role can be quite different from one project to another.
What is Reiki? 👐
Reiki is a complementary practice of Japanese origin in which a practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above another person’s body. It is traditionally associated with ideas about the flow of energy and is commonly offered in wellness and relaxation settings. Scientific evidence has not established that Reiki treats health conditions or that its proposed energy field exists. Reiki and volunteer exchanges
Volunteers at retreat and wellness centres may help with hospitality, preparing rooms, gardening, cooking, cleaning or organising activities. Reiki might be available as part of the centre’s programme without being one of the volunteer’s responsibilities.
If you are interested in practising or learning Reiki, ask whether sessions are available to volunteers, whether participation is optional and if there are additional costs. If a host is looking for someone to conduct sessions, clarify the experience, training and local requirements involved.
