Explore volunteer and work exchangeA work exchange is an arrangement in which a traveller contributes an agreed amount of help to a host in return for benefits such as accommodation, meals or learning opportunities. Conditions vary by host. opportunities for non-smokers or at hosts where smoking is not permitted in the accommodation or project environment.
This can be an important practical condition when volunteers share a private home, community space or accommodation with hosts and other participants. Always read the individual listing carefully, as smoking rules differ between projects.
What does non-smoking mean here? 🚭
A host may require volunteers to be non-smokers, or may simply prohibit smoking on the property or in the accommodation. These conditions are not always equivalent: a smoke-free property may still accept someone who smokes elsewhere, while some hosts specifically request participants who do not smoke at all. Check the wording of each opportunity before applying.
How to use this page
Confirm the current smoking policy directly with the host if it is important to you. Also check the publication date, volunteer activities, weekly hours, days off, accommodation, meals, minimum stay and any costs or contributions before travelling.
House rules may apply to cigarettes, vaping or other substances differently, so do not assume that one restriction automatically covers all of them.
