What is a kibbutz? 🌾🤝
A kibbutz is a form of collective community developed in Israel, historically organised around shared work, resources and communal life and often closely connected with agriculture. Kibbutzim have changed considerably over time, and many now combine community life with more private family arrangements, different forms of employment, industry, tourism and other economic activities.
Kibbutz and moshav
A kibbutz and a moshav are different forms of rural community. Kibbutzim developed around a more collective model of production and community life, while a moshav traditionally consists of individual family units or farms cooperating through a shared association.
On Voluntouring, the Kibbutz tag should therefore only be used for genuine kibbutzim or programmes that place volunteers in kibbutzim. Volunteer entry and visa procedures can differ from ordinary tourism. The Kibbutz Volunteers Program Center currently coordinates placements in participating kibbutzim and publishes its own eligibility, application and visa information. Check current conditions directly with the programme or host.
