Service Civil International, commonly known as SCI, is an international volunteering movement founded in 1920. Its activities focus on peace, intercultural understanding, solidarity and practical voluntary action in communities around the world.

Service Civil International and workcamps
SCI grew from the international workcamp movement. Its first project was organised in France in 1920 as a practical act of reconciliation after the First World War. Today the network continues to organise short-term and long-term voluntary projects, workcamps, training activities and peace education initiatives.
Many SCI opportunities therefore also appear in the Workcamp section. Some SCI branches also participate in programmes such as the European Solidarity Corps, but an ESCESC, the European Solidarity Corps, is an EU programme supporting young people in volunteering and solidarity projects, with programme-specific funding, support and participation conditions. project should not receive this tag unless SCI or one of its branches or partners is genuinely involved.
