Explore volunteer opportunities where horticulture is a substantial part of the project, including the cultivation and management of vegetables, fruit, flowers, herbs, nursery plants and ornamental species.
Horticulture can overlap with gardening and farming, but this page is most useful for projects where plant cultivation involves a more specialised, educational or technical focus.
What is horticulture? 🌱🌿
Horticulture is the cultivation and management of useful or ornamental plants, including fruit, vegetables, flowers, herbs and nursery plants. Volunteer activities may involve propagation, seed sowing, pruning, plant care, greenhouse work, harvesting or learning specialised growing techniques.
Horticulture and gardening
Gardening is the broader practical tag for caring for gardens and cultivated spaces. Horticulture is more appropriate when specialised plant-growing knowledge, propagation, nursery work, professional cultivation or structured horticultural learning is genuinely part of the project.
