Explore volunteer opportunities connected with HIV awareness, prevention, community education, stigma reduction and support for people living with HIV. Projects may include outreach, health education, psychosocial support, community programmes or other clearly defined activities.
The exact role varies considerably between organisations. Some opportunities focus on public awareness and education, while others work directly with communities or people living with HIV.
What belongs on this page? ❤️
This section includes projects where HIV prevention, awareness, education, stigma reduction, counselling or support for people living with HIV is a concrete part of the organisation’s work or the volunteer role. A general healthcare or community project does not necessarily belong here simply because HIV is mentioned once.
Awareness, support and healthcare
HIV awareness and community support do not necessarily require volunteers to perform clinical work. Education, outreach, administration and other non-clinical activities can be distinct from testing, diagnosis, treatment or professional counselling. Roles involving healthcare, confidential information or specialist counselling should have appropriate qualifications, training, supervision and clear privacy procedures.
Language also matters. When referring to individuals, person-centred terms such as “people living with HIV” are preferable to labels that may contribute to stigma.
How to use this page
Check the publication date and confirm the current volunteer role, supervision, working hours, accommodation, meals, minimum stay and any fees or costs. If volunteers interact directly with people receiving health or psychosocial services, ask about confidentiality, consent, safeguarding and professional boundaries before taking part.
