EVS is no longer the name used for new European volunteering projects. Most announcements listed in this archive are old and may have expired. Do not rely on their dates, age limits, funding conditions or contact details without further verification.
Older Voluntouring listings may still use the terms EVS, European Voluntary Service or Erasmus+ EVS because these were correct when the projects were originally published. They should now be read as historical listings unless the organisation has subsequently created a current ESC opportunity.
What was the European Voluntary Service?
The European Voluntary Service was an EU-supported youth volunteering programme that enabled young people to take part in non-profit volunteering activities in another country while developing skills through non-formal and informal learning.
EVS operated through partnerships between participants and participating organisations. Projects covered areas such as social inclusion, youth activities, culture, environment, education and community initiatives.
EVS volunteering could last for an extended period, including projects of up to 12 months. Support and financial arrangements depended on the programme rules applicable when the individual project was funded.
EVS and the European Solidarity Corps
The European Solidarity Corps developed from previous European youth and solidarity programmes, including EVS. A specific legal framework for the European Solidarity Corps entered into force in 2018, with funding previously associated with EVS volunteering moving into the new programme.
The current European Solidarity Corps continues to support volunteering, but its structure, terminology, eligibility rules and project requirements should not be assumed to be identical to historical EVS arrangements.

Youthpass and learning recognition
EVS participants could receive a Youthpass certificate documenting their participation and supporting recognition of the non-formal and informal learning developed during the project.
Youthpass continues to maintain examples and records for previous European programmes, including historical EVS projects, as well as certificates for current European Solidarity Corps activities.

Browse the EVS listings and articles below as historical material. Always check the publication date before contacting an organisation.
If an old EVS project interests you, check whether the organisation still exists and whether it currently participates in the European Solidarity Corps or another recognised programme. Do not assume that the dates, funding, accommodation, eligibility or contact procedures in an old EVS announcement are still valid.
Voluntouring does not organise placements, select participants, arrange visas or mediate between volunteers and organisations. Publication of an old EVS listing does not mean that the programme remains active or that the organisation currently holds the approvals required for an ESC project.
