Roles, dignity and supervision
Older people have different levels of independence, health and support needs, so do not assume that age alone means someone requires care. Volunteers should respect privacy, autonomy and personal boundaries and follow the procedures of the host organisation or service.
Activities involving personal care, medication, mobility assistance, rehabilitation, healthcare or other professional responsibilities may require specific training or qualifications. Volunteers should not replace trained staff or undertake duties beyond their competence and supervision.
