On Voluntouring, this tag is used when hands-on making, fixing or home-improvement work is a genuine part of the volunteer activities. General gardening, cleaning or construction should not receive the tag unless a real DIY element is present.
DIY skills and safety
Projects can range from simple supervised jobs to tasks requiring previous practical experience. Ask which tools and materials will be used, what instruction and protective equipment are provided and who supervises unfamiliar work.
Volunteers should not undertake electrical, structural, mechanical or other specialised work beyond their experience or qualifications. More technical activities should remain under appropriately competent supervision.
