Some opportunities may be fair exchanges with no mandatory participant fee, while others may request a contribution or programme fee. If payment is required, ask for the exact amount, what it covers and the applicable payment, cancellation and refund conditions before making a commitment.

Safety and practical skills
DIY projects can involve tools, ladders, heavy materials, machinery, chemicals or construction sites. Ask what training, supervision and protective equipment will be provided before accepting practical work.
Volunteers should not undertake electrical, structural, mechanical or other specialised work beyond their experience or qualifications. Tasks that require professional licensing or technical expertise should remain under appropriately qualified supervision.
Make sure your insurance covers the activities involved, particularly when a project includes construction, renovation, farm work or other physically demanding tasks.
