Its archipelago is close enough for day trips, and the city has long been known for its attention to sustainability and urban green spaces.

Northern Sweden, including Swedish Lapland, offers some of the country’s most memorable landscapes. In winter, travellers may experience snow-covered forests, dog sledding, Sámi culture and, with a little luck, the northern lights. In summer, the midnight sun gives long days for hiking, fishing, camping and slow travel. Places such as Kiruna, Luleå and the Kungsleden trail are often starting points for journeys into remote northern nature.

Southern Sweden has a gentler landscape, with farmland, forests, coastal towns and many small producers connected to local food and craft traditions.
