Current safety warning
Important: current official travel advice warns against all travel to Afghanistan. Travel throughout the country is considered extremely dangerous, with risks including terrorism, kidnapping, detention, armed violence and limited access to consular assistance.
Border crossings and transport conditions can also change without notice. Travelling against official government advice may affect or invalidate travel insurance.
Voluntouring does not recommend travelling to Afghanistan in response to an online volunteer listing under the current conditions.

How to use this archive
Some announcements below were published before the current situation developed and may no longer be active. Check the publication date and do not interpret an older host message as confirmation that an organisation is currently able to receive international volunteers safely.
If you contact an organisation for information, verify its current status, identity and activities independently. Do not make travel arrangements or payments based only on an old listing, social media message or invitation from a local contact.
Voluntouring does not organise placements, select volunteers, arrange visas or provide security assistance. Publication on Voluntouring.org does not in itself constitute verification, endorsement or a recommendation of an organisation or programme.
Supporting Afghan communities without travelling
People wishing to support Afghan communities may consider remote volunteering, established humanitarian organisations or other forms of assistance that do not require travelling to the country.

Fees and financial arrangements
If a remote or future programme requests a participant fee, contribution or deposit, ask for the exact amount, what it covers and the applicable cancellation or refund conditions. A fee does not automatically indicate either quality or poor practice.
Voluntouring does not process participant payments between volunteers and hosts. Any financial arrangements described in a listing should be confirmed directly with the organisation concerned.
