This volunteer opportunity in Calgary, Alberta, Canada invites helpers to support a unique community project called Sanctuary on Wheels. The initiative aims to convert a bus into a mobile comfort space that will support people experiencing dementia, grief, crisis, or end-of-life situations. The project combines compassionate community care with the calming presence of trained Briard therapy dogs.
Volunteers can help with practical tasks related to the bus conversion, such as painting, organizing materials, insulation work, or basic carpentry support. Those who prefer gentler activities may also help with the daily care and companionship of the Briards, which play an important role in the project.
The host provides accommodation and all meals in a quiet private home environment. Volunteers usually help around 2–3 hours per day, five days per week, with two days off to rest or explore Calgary. In their free time, volunteers can visit city parks, riverside trails, cafés, museums, and nearby mountain areas such as Banff or Canmore.
