Green & Away is a small UK educational charity that builds and runs a temporary, off-grid, tented eco-venue each summer near Worcester, by the River Teme with views of the Malvern Hills. It’s entirely volunteer-led and opens just for the summer season.
Volunteering there is very hands-on and seasonal. The year is split into three phases: “setup” in mid-June, an “events” period through late June to early August, and “takedown” into mid-August. In setup you help raise marquees, put in basic infrastructure like plumbing and solar electrics, and make the site look welcoming. During events you might cook, bake, wash up, run the bar/café, welcome guests, clean facilities, chop wood, and turn rooms over between groups. Takedown is the big pack-away to leave the field as it was. Typical days are about eight hours with tea-and-cake breaks and two days off per week.
You live on site and camp. They can provide a tent space and bedding if needed, and all meals are included—vegetarian/mostly vegan, with allergies handled by arrangement. Facilities are low-impact: compost loos, wood-fired showers, cold-water taps, a solar charging station and Wi-Fi. Britain being Britain, you’re asked to come prepared for all weather; safety gear is provided.
Applications are straightforward: they ask for a minimum two-week commitment, Monday arrivals for induction, and volunteers need to be 18+ with conversational English; they can’t support visa applications.
If you want something longer or more structured, they also run summer internships that cover team-leading and project work across catering, hospitality, events, office/project management and site/technical. For 2025 those ran roughly 9 June to mid-August and applications have closed, but the page is a good reference for what they offer each year.
