Safety notice
This page mentions Cambodia or Thailand. Some areas can be affected by border closures, localised fighting, or sudden restrictions. Check official travel advice for your nationality and confirm transport routes and insurance coverage before making plans. If your trip is not essential, consider waiting for a calmer period.

Editor’s note: This article was revised after receiving feedback from people connected to the Rainbow community. It is intended as general cultural and travel information, not as an official invitation or promotion. We do not publish exact camp locations, coordinates, route maps, private access directions or direct links to individual gathering threads.

Rainbow Gatherings are temporary community gatherings in nature, rooted in the alternative culture that grew from the 1970s. They are usually based on shared outdoor living, communal cooking, talking circles, acoustic music, free spirituality, practical cooperation and care for the land where the gathering takes place.

They can be understood as temporary self-organised villages. There are no main stages, no ticket offices and no guaranteed tourist services. People who arrive are expected to take part in daily life: collecting wood, cooking, carrying water, cleaning, helping in circles, supporting communal kitchens or staying for the final clean-up. In many Rainbow communities, one simple idea is often repeated: if you see something that needs doing, you can probably help with it.

Participation is usually based on free donations, often collected through the so-called “magic hat” after meals. Alcohol, commercial activity, amplified music and behaviour that may harm the place or the people present are generally discouraged. Each gathering may have its own local customs, so it is important to arrive with respect, patience and a willingness to listen.

A note on privacy, consent and Rainbow culture: Rainbow Gatherings are not conventional festivals, commercial retreats or tourist events. They are self-organised communities, and information often circulates through local circles, trusted contacts, word of mouth, community forums and people already connected to the Rainbow family. This page is intended as general travel and cultural information, not as an official invitation, endorsement or promotion. We do not publish exact camp locations, coordinates, route maps or private access directions. If a local Rainbow circle asks for lower visibility or for specific information not to be amplified publicly, that decision should be respected. Before travelling, verify information through respectful local channels, listen to community decisions, avoid treating gatherings as content to consume, and ask for clear consent before photographing or filming people, kitchens, ceremonies, circles, children, vulnerable people or shared spaces.

This calendar brings together broad dates and areas that were circulating online as community information and was last checked on 23 June 2026. The information should still be considered provisional. In Rainbow Gatherings, exact locations, access details and local conditions can change. Some forum links may require registration or login, and community forums are not official sources. Always check updated local information, fire risk, permits, transport options, travel advice and respectful community channels before travelling.

What to bring: tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, torch, water bottle, bowl, cup, spoon, suitable shoes, warm and waterproof clothing, biodegradable products, personal medicines and enough basic autonomy. Rainbow Gatherings can be very simple and remote.

Spain and the 2026 eclipse: the European Rainbow Gathering in Spain may receive extra attention because a total solar eclipse will be visible across parts of northern Spain on 12 August 2026. This could make travel in some areas busier than usual. If you are planning to travel in Spain during that period, check transport, local conditions and accommodation options well in advance. Use proper eclipse glasses or certified solar viewers if you watch the eclipse, except during the brief phase of totality and only if you are inside the path of totality.

Some earlier 2026 gatherings in New Zealand, Costa Rica, Nepal, Thailand, Bolivia and Romania were listed in community calendars but had already passed when this article was updated. We removed them from the main tables to keep the page useful for readers planning future travel.

Before travelling: check the most recent sources, ask for confirmation through reliable and respectful local channels, and remember that many gatherings do not publish the exact location immediately. Bring autonomy, respect, time and a real willingness to help. A Rainbow Gathering works when the people present take care of the place and daily life together.

How to join respectfully

First-time participants should arrive with simple expectations. Rainbow Gatherings 2026 may be beautiful, generous, uncomfortable, intense, messy and very different from a normal organised event. Personal freedom matters, and so does attention to the group, the forest, the water, animals, nearby communities and vulnerable people.

A good approach is to arrive with enough time, listen before proposing, ask where help is needed and respect the decision-making circles. Avoid treating the gathering as content to photograph, film or consume. In many situations it is better to ask for consent before taking pictures of people, kitchens, ceremonies, circles, children or collective moments. Do not share identifiable images of people online without their clear permission.

The final clean-up is a central part of the experience. Staying a few extra days to help remove waste, restore paths and leave the area in good condition is one of the most concrete ways to take part.

    1. Hi Sairah, thanks for asking. Voluntouring is not the organiser of Rainbow Gatherings, so we can’t confirm the rules for children at each gathering. Please check directly with the local circle or official contacts before travelling with children, as conditions can vary depending on the place, access, facilities and safety arrangements. Parents or guardians should make sure the setting is suitable and that children remain under their full responsibility.
