Extinction Rebellion, often shortened to XR, is an international climate movement that began in the United Kingdom in 2018. It uses public demonstrations, symbolic actions and nonviolent civil disobedience to demand faster action on climate change, biodiversity loss and ecological breakdown. The movement is known for its hourglass symbol, colourful flags and direct protest messages such as “Rebel for Life”.
