It is important to research the community, understand the work exchangeA work exchange is an arrangement in which a traveller contributes an agreed amount of help to a host in return for benefits such as accommodation, meals or learning opportunities. Conditions vary by host., keep contact with people outside the project and respect your own boundaries. Be careful with unclear leadership, pressure to conform, isolation, or unverified health claims. A good community should allow questions, respect personal freedom and communicate openly. Safe volunteering starts with curiosity, preparation and critical thinking.
