Volunteer project in Peru at la Casa Ciclista – Re: thinking sustainable tourism.

La Casa Ciclista – We are a small non-profit working in bicycle advocacy, we offer training, support and run bicycle recycle projects here with the aim of making cycling zero waste. We also run a small, for-profit cafe/bicycle shop as an income-generating business to support our projects. We are currently recruiting for 2022 and need hospitality staff in our cafe (barista, chefs or bakers) with industry experience. We also need videographers and photographers.

The first project we started has been going for 6 months now. We took some startup capital and opened a small cafe/bakery/breakfast bar in Yucay. We modelled it on many of the bicycle cafes in Europe and the USA that are so popular with cyclists and hope to have a workshop and club running from this location soon too.

We wonโ€™t lie, itโ€™s hard goingโ€™s and a lot of work for us. But we knew we also needed to have an income-generating project to support our NGO and we know that good breakfast spots are few and far between in the sacred valley of the Incas. We love our breakfast food (we serve breakfast all day), sandwiches, an assortment of sugar-free, gluten-free and vegan pastries and our organic, sugar-free coffee. We hope everyone who visits us enjoys them as much as we do! We are also proud of the vegan dishes available.

As minimalists, we focused on giving great quality and quantity rather than flashy, over-decorated food that is low on substance. Itโ€™s a simple start, but weโ€™re working hard to make this place something special.

Benefits
We offer free accommodation as well as two meals a day.
Help request
Volunteers work 5 days a week and for 6 hours per day. Holidays are also given.
Location

More from La casa ciclista

Youโ€™re an athlete/traveller/adventurer/competitor/experiencer/pedaler who wants to ride your bike in cycling paradise, (aka) the Sacred Valley of the Incas for longer than just a couple of days & a redeye to Machu Picchu. You want to train at a high altitude for a race or have a wee summer camp preparing for a race season. Perhaps you just want to take the time to explore this remarkable place and see how folks live here, or maybe you want to create hours of original content.

You want to experience what happens when the wild Wild West meets neverland. You want to be enchanted. And maybe you have older but perfectly good gravel, cx or enduro MTB you could sell or, maybe take on a training holiday with you.

We are a small NGO dedicated to giving bicycles, training, support and development+racing opportunities to the local population of this beautiful valley we call home. Weโ€™ll give you up to three months of free accommodation in our off-grid mountain cabin (dirt road access) that sleeps 2 comfortably and a family of 4 cosily in exchange for your bicycles as donations for us to use in our academy class, racing and depositary programs.

Weโ€™ll also happily pedal and grind out MILES with you to get that perfect climb, descent or photo (plenty of 4000m + passes and insane descents for Mtb). Weโ€™re cyclohics and more than keen to share trails, roads, markets, cultural and historical sites and, of course, the breathtaking scenery that defines the Cordillera Vilcanota. DM us for personalized itineraries around your riding disciplines and preferences. We do it all. Road, gravel, superenduro, dh. If it has two wheels and cranks. Weโ€™re more than keen!
