Hungary 🇭🇺
Volunteering opportunities in Hungary include work exchanges, community initiatives, environmental projects, hospitality experiences and funded youth volunteering programs. Hungary is a landlocked country in Central Europe, with opportunities based both in Budapest and in smaller towns and rural areas.
Some listings may be seasonal, archived or no longer active. Always check the publication date and confirm current availability directly with the host or organisation before making travel plans.
How to use this page
Open the opportunity that interests you and read the project description carefully. Check the publication date, activity dates and any application deadline before contacting the host.
To apply or request more information, look for the contact details at the end of the listing. Depending on the project, these may include an official website, email address or application form.
Before accepting an opportunity, confirm the expected activities, weekly hours, days off, accommodation, meals, exact location, transport arrangements and any fees or contributions directly with the host or organisation.
Many opportunities published on Voluntouring.org are based on a work or cultural exchange in which accommodation, meals or other forms of hospitality may be provided in return for a limited number of hours of help. Conditions vary considerably between projects, so always confirm exactly what is included.
Voluntouring does not organise placements, select volunteers or mediate between volunteers and hosts. Older announcements may remain online for archival and informational purposes.
European Solidarity Corps and pocket money
Some opportunities in Hungary are funded through the European Solidarity Corps (ESC). ESC volunteering is generally available to eligible participants aged 18 to 30 and may include accommodation, food, insurance, travel support and pocket money for personal expenses. Eligibility and the support provided depend on the specific project.
European Voluntary Service (EVS) is the former EU volunteering programme and has been replaced by the European Solidarity Corps. Older Voluntouring listings may still use the term EVS because they are retained as part of the archive.
Visas and volunteering in Hungary
Entry and residence requirements depend on your nationality, length of stay and the nature of the volunteering activity. Do not assume that visa-free or tourist entry automatically permits every type of volunteering or work exchange.
Hungary has specific residence provisions for eligible third-country nationals taking part in recognised voluntary activities, including certain public-interest volunteering and European Solidarity Corps activities. Formal placements may require a volunteer agreement with the host organisation and evidence relating to accommodation, financial means and healthcare coverage.
Check the current requirements with the relevant Hungarian immigration authority or consulate before travelling. Hosts and organisations should not be assumed to provide invitation letters, visa support or financial guarantees unless this is explicitly part of the programme.
Make sure you can cover your travel, insurance, visa and personal expenses that are not included in the project. For additional general guidance, read Voluntouring’s information about safety and legality in volunteering and work exchanges.
Important: project availability, funding, accommodation arrangements and immigration requirements can change. Confirm current conditions directly with the host and consult relevant official sources before making travel or financial commitments.
