Volunteer at Faka Ranch horse ranch in Madagascar

Faka Ranch is an equestrian farm in the volcanic regions of central west Madagascar, with riding routes that also reach the east coast. The ranch welcomes riders and non-riders, families and volunteers for stays in a very special part of the country.

About Faka Ranch

We have a stable of around 50 horses, a mixture of Malagasy horses from local breeds and ex-racehorses from Mauritius that we receive through a rescue and rehabilitation programme. The horses are used for trail rides through volcanic landscapes, lakes and beaches, and need daily care and attention throughout the year.

The volunteer exchange

Volunteers are fed and housed at the ranch and help with a wide range of equine-related tasks. We are looking for people who are versatile around horses, with an affinity for equines and interest in basic veterinary care, grooming, feeding and supporting rides.

We also appreciate volunteers who can work well with our team of about ten local staff, are flexible and open-minded, and are aware of the limitations of a country strongly affected by poverty, while being eager to immerse themselves in a very different culture.

Madagascar is one of the poorest countries in the world and does not offer all modern comforts, but warm hospitality and radiant smiles can be found at every corner.

Language preferences

We prefer volunteers who speak English or French, so they can also help pass on language concepts to our team during daily life at the ranch.
