Additional info
Information about the organization.
Bolivia Digna is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) based in Cochabamba, Bolivia and founded in 2006. Its objective is to promote and defend the rights of infants, children, adolescents, senior citizens and other vulnerable social groups living in exclusion and poverty. Through educational and social assistance programs, we promote better living conditions and create more opportunities for advancement for people, particularly young people, living in poor or marginal conditions. To augment the existing system, we provide integrated educational assistance to pre-school children and children of school age and run other projects that benefit their families, their community and the environment in which they live.
Information about the place
We work in communities on the outskirts of the city of Cochabamba, Bolivia. Cochabamba is a rapidly growing city and the new immigrants to the city tend to establish, either legally or illegally, communities on the edge of the city. The โfavelaโ style homes in this new neighbourhood lack basic facilities such as water and electricity. Over time, some of the infrastructure issues improve as the communities become more established and the state-run systems begin to operate, but social problems often remain. The people living there are usually from very poor backgrounds and have come seeking work. Many of the adults are illiterate and work long hours for low wages.
Cochabamba is a city where it is easy to live for volunteers. The third biggest city in the country and a growing economy, it is well developed for the country with access to all amenities, cultural activities, restaurants of all kinds. The city as its called of ‘gardens’ or the city of ‘eternal spring’ has perfect weather of 25 degrees almost all year long. Located at the centre of the country, it is also easy to go almost everywhere in Bolivia.
