Volunteer in Uruguay farm exchange collage, yurt stay, garden work, chickens, shared meals and bioconstruction.
January 2026: Las Minas Agroforesta shared an interesting farm exchange in Uruguay in our slow travel volunteer Facebook community, and we’re happy to give it extra visibility here.

@lasminas.agroforesta is inviting volunteers to join them at @lasbandurrias.uy in the hills around Minas, Lavalleja Department, Uruguay. They describe a hands-on experience in agroecology, syntropic farming, composting, and simple bioconstruction, with a calm rural setting and a focus on learning by doing.

The routine shared is clear and reasonable for a work exchange: about 5 hours a day, Monday to Friday, with weekends free. Tasks can change with the season, but the hosts say you will be part of everyday farm life while also supporting longer-term projects.

What you may help with

Based on the host’s message, volunteers may support:

    • Garden work, beds, planting and harvesting.
    • Natural building and small bioconstruction projects.
    • Chicken care and help around the site.
    • Plant nursery support and seasonal tasks.

The hosts also mention they are open to additional skills and ideas, especially practical help that fits the farm’s rhythm and priorities.

What the host says is included

The host mentions a cozy yurt stay, hot showers, and an equipped kitchen. Lunch is provided on workdays (Monday to Friday). Volunteers are also welcome to harvest and eat produce from the organic garden. If you need breakfast and dinner included, ask how meals usually work in practice and what food costs you should budget for.

The host mentions accommodation and weekday lunch, but does not fully describe other meals or any extra costs. No participation fee is mentioned. Please confirm in writing what is included (meals, groceries, utilities) and whether there is any deposit or contribution. In particular, ask what is included beyond weekday lunch, if there are any shared costs (for example groceries, gas, or utilities), what the sleeping setup is like inside the yurt, and if there is reliable Wi-Fi if you need it. It is also worth confirming the start date flexibility and what a typical weekday looks like.
