Guzhengโ€ (ๅค็ญ) aupair opportunities in China (with Qixing) ๐ŸŒ

au pairs and students in traditional clothing learning to play the guzheng in a cultural workshop.

โ€œGuzhengโ€ (ๅค็ญ) is the name of a traditional Chinese string instrument.

It is a large wooden zither, usually with 21 strings stretched over movable bridges. Players pluck the strings with picks attached to their fingers, producing bright, flowing tones often associated with classical Chinese music.

Au pairs in China experience traditional music through guzheng lessons as part of the Qixing cultural program. The guzheng, a classic Chinese zither with a history of over two thousand years, offers students a chance to connect with heritage through sound. In this workshop, international participants wear elegant qipao and hanfu while seated at long wooden instruments, carefully guided by a local teacher. Each student practices finger placement, plucking techniques, and rhythm, creating soft melodies that fill the studio. Between sessions, the group shares laughs and encouragement, building friendships that extend beyond the classroom. The guzhengโ€™s distinctive tones combine with the visual beauty of traditional attire, creating an atmosphere both immersive and inspiring. For many au pairs, this music class is a highlight of their cultural exchange, deepening their understanding of Chinese traditions while offering a unique creative skill to take home and remember their time abroad.
