Volunteers participate in activities such as coral restoration, reef monitoring, and underwater data collection. These tasks involve handling coral fragments, conducting surveys, and assisting with conservation dives. All sensitive activities are supervised by qualified dive instructors and conservation staff to ensure safety, accuracy, and environmental responsibility.

Volunteers must respect ecological boundaries, follow dive safety protocols, and avoid any unsupervised handling of marine life or restoration materials. Participation requires a minimum age of 18 and certification as an Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent). For those not yet certified, training can be arranged at additional fees before joining project work.

Our mission at Reef Buddy Philippines is to protect and restore coral reef ecosystems while empowering local communities and international volunteers to take part in marine conservation. We address the urgent problem of reef degradation caused by climate change, destructive fishing practices, and pollution, working to safeguard biodiversity and sustain livelihoods that depend on healthy oceans.

The program benefits both the marine environment and coastal communities by combining scientific restoration methods with education and outreach. Volunteers gain hands-on conservation experience while contributing to long-term ecological resilience. Participation is open to adults aged 18 and above, and all activities are supervised by qualified dive instructors and conservation staff to ensure safety, respect for ecological boundaries, and responsible conduct.

Notes about requirements and accessibility ✍

• Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to participate in the program.
• A minimum certification of Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent) is required for conservation dives.
• Volunteers without the required certification may complete training with us at additional fees before joining project activities.
• Those without certification must demonstrate basic water skills:
  • Ability to swim 200 meters without any flotation device
  • Ability to float or tread water for 8 minutes
• All participants should be comfortable working in a team environment, following dive safety protocols, and respecting ecological boundaries.

Please note: we are unable to accommodate individuals with mobility limitations, as activities require carrying dive gear, swimming against currents, and working outdoors in tropical conditions.

• Daily routine
  • Breakfast is served at 7:00 AM.
  • Volunteers meet at the dive center by 8:30 AM to prepare for the day.
  • On Mondays, the schedule begins with a presentation at 9:00 AM.
  • From Tuesdays to Saturdays, volunteers head out to the dive sites after preparation.

How to get to your site ✈ 🗺

Volunteers may arrive at either Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila or Mactan-Cebu International Airport in Cebu. From Manila or Cebu, they can take a domestic flight with Cebu Pacific to Dumaguete–Sibulan Airport. Our staff will meet volunteers at Dumaguete Airport and escort them to the volunteer accommodation in Dauin.
