Bhakti Yoga temple construction volunteer in Yucatán, Mexico

Bhakti Yoga volunteer opportunity in Mexico

Shared via our Facebook group. 🚩Bhakti Yoga Ashram in Ticul, Yucatán, Mexico invites caring, spiritually curious volunteers to support a temple construction project and daily ashram life. Placements are open for September and October, with the option to extend. The community is welcoming and devotional, with people of different ages and backgrounds. Volunteers help keep shared spaces running smoothly while learning practical skills and experiencing Bhakti culture in a respectful environment.

The volunteer schedule is about 25 hours per week across five days.

Tasks vary by need and ability, and training is provided for beginners. Typical activities include assisting builders with simple duties, carrying materials, painting, sanding or cleaning work areas, tending the garden, and helping in the kitchen or temple. Patience, reliability and a calm attitude are appreciated. The climate in Yucatán is hot, so the team encourages regular breaks, water, sunscreen and a steady pace.

The exchange includes a bed in shared accommodation with shared bathroom, two fullcook vegetarian meals each day plus a light dinner. Volunteers can join optional morning programs with kirtan, talks and simple ceremonies, as well as free yoga asana classes. Nearby you can explore cenotes, small Yucatecan towns and sites of the ancient Maya. A minimum stay of one month helps the team plan work and gives you time to settle in. English or Spanish is welcome, and previous construction experience is not required.

September and October

Temple Construction Project

Hello, beautiful souls!

We invite spiritually inclined and kind-hearted people to join our Bhakti Yoga Volunteer Program. We are currently working on a temple construction project in Yucatán, Mexico. The project is to build a traditional Vedic (Hindu) temple based on the teachings of Vaishnavism (devotion to Krishna).

The community is a friendly devotional family. With a wide diversity of young people, elders, babies and children, we are culturally diverse, with visitors from Mexico and from around the world.

The project is guided by our main spiritual teacher, Swami B. K. Ashram, who has been developing the ashram since the early 1990s. Although the work has continued for many years, we keep learning every day and move forward with humility, step by step. We encourage versatile people with initiative and adaptability to join. We have modern facilities and often enjoy abundant, delicious vegetarian food. At times we face different forms of austerity that can be challenging and that require maturity and the ability to adapt.

Volunteer Program

  • 5 hours a day, 5 days a week; morning or afternoon as needed (a fixed shift is provided by the service area).
  • Service areas: temple construction; gardening and maintenance; temple services (kitchen, cleaning); yoga asana.
  • Optional Bhakti Yoga program in the temple (traditional ceremonies, talks and chanting).
  • Ample opportunities to learn new skills and deepen your spiritual practice. Shared room and bathroom.
  • Two full vegetarian meals per day, plus a light dinner.
  • Free access to yoga asana classes; afternoon English classes in the town (10 minutes by taxi from the temple).
  • Minimum stay of 1 month with the option to extend.

Yucatán is beautiful and full of hidden gems, including temples of the ancient Maya, cenotes, traditional Yucatecan culture and charming small towns to explore in your free time.

Note: Yucatán is hot. You will likely need time to rest and recover, especially after working in the sun.

With much affection,
Hare Krishna,
