DAKTARI delivers an onsite environmental education program for underprivileged children in South Africa so they learn how to protect the environment and its Wildlife. We are looking for a Communication & Media Manager and a Community Outreach Manager.
The communications & media manager is the voice of DAKTARI and we are looking for someone excited to take on the challenge of describing our work to a big and variable audience in a fun and engaging way. Part of your role is to tell everyone what is happening at DAKTARI every day. That means you have a front-row seat to all of the exciting things happening at the camp!
DAKTARI offers both short-term (1–12 weeks) and long-term volunteering options.
Short-term volunteers are asked to pay a participation fee to help cover running costs; this is arranged directly with the organisation.
Voluntouring.org focuses mainly on the long-term roles (usually 9–12 months), where volunteers receive accommodation and meals in exchange for their work and do not pay a program fee (you still cover your own flights, insurance, etc.).

The DAKTARI Outreach Program is an integral part of our work. This program reinforces the impact we have on the children that come to DAKTARI. We also expand our impact by empowering the local community members to lift themselves out of poverty. Your job will be to maximise this impact in ways that excite the students and community members.

DAKTARI Bush School & Wildlife Orphanage is an NGO founded in 2006 with the goal of enabling local children to have a better quality of life. DAKTARI works to educate and inspire children to value their environment and stimulate community projects.
Located in the South African bush near Kruger National Park, DAKTARI provides the perfect environment for children to learn about their natural heritage. The children visit DAKTARI for 5 days to complete the teaching program and work with the animals in our wildlife orphanage. Volunteers from all over the world teach the lessons and guide the children in caring for the animals.
DAKTARI also runs an outreach program to provide a greater impact to the community. The weekly ECO CLUB allows children of all ages to learn about the environment at their schools and help with community projects.
How many volunteers could you host?
Several long-term volunteers (different roles at the bush school and wildlife orphanage).
When would you need volunteers?
To start as soon as possible for 9 to 12 months (depending on the position).
How many hours of help per day?
8 hours of help per day (Full Time)
How many days of help per week?
5 days per week – 2 days off
Are accommodation and food included?
Yes, we offer food and accommodation.

Diet – nutrition information
We provide breakfast (fruits, yogurt, muesli, toast). Lunch is usually a light meal that consists of salads, sandwiches, rice… Dinner consists of meat/rice or pasta or potatoes/vegetables. We can cater for vegetarians and vegans.
Fees transparency
Long-term volunteers (usually 9–12 months) do not pay a program fee. Short-term volunteers (1–12 weeks) contribute a fee directly to DAKTARI.

Volunteers’ benefits:
We offer a unique long-term volunteer opportunity (usually 9–12 months) in the middle of the bush, surrounded by animals and children. You will work with people from all around the world, from various cultures and backgrounds, and gain meaningful work experience whilst having fun!
What to do in the free time
There are so many excursions you can do! We can organize trips to Kruger National Park, Walk with Cheetahs, and other local activities.

From Johannesburg airport, you can either take a domestic flight (1h) to Hoedspruit, or a shuttle bus (about 6 hours) to Hoedspruit.
