Abridge Homestay Tutor: free au pair program in China including flights! 🇨🇳
Abridge EduCamp
Teach English on this fully funded homestay tutoring/ au pair in China program with Abridge EduCamp, a social enterprise based in the UK which aims to “bridge East and West through education”. We offer opportunities for students and young people to participate in cultural exchange programs in China, develop their language skills, and gain valuable international teaching experience.
The EduCare program is focused around homestay tutoring. It is often compared to being an au pair, however, there are some key differences. Unlike au pairs, homestay tutors are mostly focused on English tutoring and do very little housework. You will spend the majority of your time helping the child learn English, playing fun games with them and providing a more immersive English language environment.
This is a fantastic opportunity to be a role model and develop your intercultural communication skills, all while also enjoying free Chinese classes, trips, cultural activities and more! There are two program options – the short-term and long-term EduCare programs. While they have a lot of similarities, there are some slight differences in terms of the benefits and eligibility criteria.
Short-Term Homestay Program in China
Spend 6-8 weeks as a homestay tutor in China on this fully-funded program, learning Chinese while staying with a local host family! The short-term program is ideal for current university students, fitting perfectly into your summer vacation.
Includes:
Homestay cultural exchange experience in China for 6-8 weeks
FREE return flights, homestay accommodation, most meals and insurance
FREE Chinese lessons
FREE Trips and cultural activities
Choice of locations across China
Tutor English and assist with light housework
There are at least 30 places available for this summer, with some opportunities also available on an ad-hoc basis throughout the year. Participants will typically spend 30-35 hours per week teaching their host family English and doing light housework, with at least one full day off per week.
There is no fee required to take part, however, a $150 deposit is required prior to flight booking (this is repaid upon completion of the program).
Families will provide comfortable homestay accommodation with WiFi internet access, typically a single room and often with an ensuite bathroom. Most families will have at least one member who speaks a high level of English, and no Chinese language skills are required to take part. Those with advanced Chinese language skills may be placed in a host family which does not speak English, a great opportunity to develop your language skills!
Eligibility Criteria/requirements
Due to the funding generously provided by host families, Chinese visa restrictions and the internship responsibilities, applicants must meet the following essential eligibility requirements:
Be a current university student or recent graduate (last two years);
Aged 18-29 on the anticipated start date;
Have a valid passport from the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, New Zealand, or Australia;

Long-Term Homestay Tutor Program in China

Includes:
Homestay tutor experience in China for 3-12 months
FREE Homestay accommodation, insurance and most meals
1500 RMB/ month allowance and completion/extension bonus
