The Island of Happiness in Uganda
We welcome volunteers of all diverse backgrounds to team up with us to touch the lives of the vulnerable groups, Widows, Older persons, Orphans, Youth, Women, Disabled Children, Victims of Gender-Based Violence, and also Universal Populations.
We do not discriminate and we welcome volunteers from all walks of life; individuals, couples, missionaries, young and the old with even no academic qualifications. We have hosted volunteers from all over the world and therefore we have the experience in cooperating with and accommodating volunteers.
Food and accommodation
Mama Dorika’s Island of Happiness – MDIH will provide meals and accommodation to volunteers at a shared cost.
General info
At the end of your stay, we give a recommendation letter and also a certificate of participation in our projects. We usually organize get-together parties for our prestigious Volunteers when their volunteer schedule ends and they become Mama Dorika’s Global Ambassadors.
You can volunteer in the following Fields and Sectors:
Medical/ health those with some medical training, to help in rural health centres, hospitals and provide health education to different groups within the community and work with our HIV and malaria projects, Conduct Medical Camps and Outreaches in the hard to reach areas.
Workshops and training help train our peer educators, staff and community in areas you are knowledgeable in and feel would be beneficial e.g. IT skills, vocational skills, financial and business skills Management and administration this involves helping our staff with the day to day running of the organization and any new improvements you can bring.
This includes monitoring and evaluation of projects, marketing, advertising, social networking, legal affairs, website designing, proposal writing and staff training. Business planning and management. Photography, web designing, and graphic design making short documentaries about our projects in slum areas are welcome. Human resource management, administrative work and Programming Monitoring and evaluation project work. Micro-finance.

What are the volunteers’ benefits?
Certificate of Appreciation, Hiking on our beautiful hills, picnics, new friends, total culture immersion etc. We provide free Ugandan Simcard, pay for your internet, help you to arrange for your tours, we take you out for Picnics, we provide fruits and many kinds of juice.
Extra activities during free time?
Visiting the Widows, Gardening, Photography, providing capacity building lessons to our staff, assisting our staff with a better understanding on how to write proposals and concept letters.
Do you charge fees?
Yes, There is a small program fees attached, it is $90 per week to helps towards your accommodation, 4 meals a day, water, soft drinks, and transport across fields. Why do we charge these fees? BECAUSE WE ARE STILL A GRASS ROOT ORGANIZATION AND NOT YET ESTABLISHED. We hope to scrap the fees with time to come.

We are located on the beautiful hills of the Rwenzori Mountains, the Mountains of the Moon and above all we are located across the Equator and we experience a tropical climate. We receive mild rains, enough sunshine, cool weather and a conducive climate.
