Our goals
At HMWS we dedicate our time and efforts to empowering the poorest communities through education and medical assistance, regardless of race, creed, colour, religion, beliefs, circumstance or environment. Our organisation is a small community-based grassroots non-profit voluntary society registered under the Government of West Bengal, India.
Through the hard work and commitment of our volunteers, we can continue to provide a better life for those most in need in our district.
Who can volunteer?
We do not require you to have formal qualifications. We believe everybody can bring something positive to our organisation. Desirable qualities are spoken English and teaching experience, but more importantly a kind heart and the willingness to make a positive difference in our deprived area.
Accommodation and homestay
Most volunteers choose to stay in one of our homestays. This gives you good value for money and sends all proceeds directly back into the local community. Homestays have local facilities and internet access, and we can arrange local pick-up and drop-off if you share your travel plans in advance.
Fees transparency
No “program fee” – just local living costs
As stated in the original announcement, the costs were US$105 per week per person. This covered two home-cooked meals a day (breakfast and dinner), tea and accommodation. Airport pick-up and drop-off were US$100 in total.
HMWS does not charge any extra agency or program fees. Your contribution goes to your stay and the local families hosting you. Please confirm current costs directly with the project before making plans, as prices may have changed since the announcement.
