Volunteer with Samos Volunteers on the Greek island of Samos
Samos Volunteers is an independent NGO based on the island of Samos in Greece. Since 2016 the organisation has supported refugees and asylum seekers living in and around the island’s camp through community spaces, clothes distributions and practical day-to-day support.
Today Samos Volunteers runs projects such as the Alpha Centre and Alpha Land community spaces and a Free Shop where people can choose clothes and essential items with dignity. Activities include language classes, creative workshops, psychosocial support, fitness and yoga sessions, and logistics work in the warehouse and clothing distributions.
Who they are looking for
Samos Volunteers looks for committed team players who can also work independently. Volunteers should be patient, resilient and respectful of existing systems, while being ready to contribute new ideas. Teaching or community work experience is very welcome, but there are also roles in logistics, hygiene support, communications and coordination. An open mind and a flexible attitude are essential, as daily tasks can change quickly.
In recent years Samos Volunteers has usually asked international volunteers to be at least 20 years old and to commit for several weeks or more, so that projects can run smoothly. Life on Samos and impact
Most people on the move in Samos now live in the Closed-Controlled Access Centre (CCAC), where living conditions remain difficult and basic needs are often not fully covered. Samos Volunteers tries to help fill this gap by offering welcoming community spaces, structured activities and access to clothes and essentials. Volunteering with them means contributing directly to a more dignified daily life for camp residents while learning about grassroots humanitarian work in the Aegean context.
