Volunteer technical/permaculture project in the west of Belgium, near Ypres / Poperinge

Brewery Feys is a unique domain in the β€œwest hook” of Belgium, we as volunteers want to bring it into a new life with the old industrial buildings of the former brewery and the adjacent Brewery-castle. The goal is to be self-sufficient and build all facilities for it. After that we will exploit activities for events, weddings and ceremonies, always having the ecological footprint and recycling in mind. We are building our own sustainable (permaculture) vegetable garden, building a water supply and alternative energies, like electricity. The mansion next to it is now being converted into a co-housing / guest facility, where we will have room for volunteers or couples who would like to help with all kinds of odd jobs on the site.

Mission

Our goal is to be able to live and work completely self-sufficiently, by means of organizing events, growing vegetables in our 1-hectare large garden, guided tours, photoshoots, ceremonies and in the end some bed & breakfast. Are you a technical person, or do you like gardening jobs, would you like to learn about self-sufficient living and help to improve our little spot on the globe?

Volunteers requisites

We are looking for very motivated, international and independent people to help carry out some of the many projects in the domain. From small independent jobs to multi-day projects, but also to socialize, cook and live together.

Activities

Jobs change every moment from constructing, to gardening, to welcoming visitors and improving the daily hassle on the go.

The volunteer exchange

We offer you a reimbursement for expenses incurred. Of course, you can dine with us and though we have several sleeping spots, we are still in a start-up phase in which those facilities also need to be improved. This would be one of the first projects. We also have a parking place if you would like to stay in your campervan. Or you can find a corner in the meadow if you’re into camping and bringing your own tent.

Participation for one-week minimum, up to 2 months max, about 5 to 6 hours a day.

Benefits

Come and enjoy yourself with your partner, girlfriend or husband, and discover the Westhoek in Belgium, Take a trip to Ypres or Veurne, come kayaking on the YZER river, or discover the stories behind the history of the Feys Brewery or the many sites of the First World War.

About the brewery

Brewery FEYS was one of Belgium’s biggest breweries of its kind, especially before and around the first World War. A sustainable renovation with new techniques with outstanding insulation is our goal. And brewing the best beer!
The family FEYS stopped the brewing process in August 1965; we plan to restart within one year.
