Editorial update, August 2026: Green & Away is still active and continues to run its seasonal sustainable outdoor venue in Worcestershire, with volunteering, internships and residencies. The information in this listing was originally provided directly by Green & Away in 2022 and is preserved below as a record of the hostβs own description at that time. Dates, working arrangements and some practical details may have changed. The 2026 summer season has now ended, and Green & Away states that recruitment for its 2027 internships will begin in late winter. Please always check the official website before planning a stay.
Summer volunteering opportunities in outdoor events in the UK
Green & Away builds and runs a sustainable outdoor venue every summer. We welcome committed, hardworking people who are willing to help us provide an important service for the UKβs voluntary, social, environmental organisations and people wanting to hold events with us that are environmentally friendly.
There are a wide range of jobs which need to be done to build the camp and to provide for the large numbers who come to our events. Cooking, washing up, welcoming people, office work, maintaining the toilets, lighting the burners to heat water for showers, etc. are all vital parts of the events. We will find out what your skills are and try to match your skills and interests to what needs to be done, to ensure that the less attractive jobs are shared around. All the jobs carry a measure of responsibility.
We can take single volunteers or groups staying for one week or the whole summer.
Green & Away takes place outdoors and under canvas. You will need your own tent, however, we may be able to arrange one for you if you are unable to bring one and you let us know in advance. Full board is provided (3 vegetarian meals a day and regular tea breaks with cake!). The site has hot showers, clothes washing facilities and composting toilets.
A licensed bar, comfortable sitting areas and arts and crafts facilities come as and when we have built them. There is WiFi and phone/laptop charging facilities. Although G&A is set up on the outskirts of a small village near Worcester, the nearest shop and post office is 2 miles away.
We ask that you are over 18, willing to work hard, have conversational English and are committed to our ethos as an organisation. You should have the ability to enter and stay in the UK for the duration of your volunteering placement. We also ask that you adhere to our Covid-19 policies, which will be at least in line with Government measures and potentially our own site-specific requirements.
Current information: Some practical arrangements have changed since this description was submitted in 2022. Green & Awayβs current volunteering information asks for a minimum stay of two weeks, requires volunteers to be at least 18 and specifies a good conversational level of English, currently at least CEFR B2. The old Covid-19 requirement above belongs to the 2022 submission and is not listed among the current requirements on the official volunteering page. Current accommodation arrangements may also differ, so please check the latest information directly with Green & Away.
