Summer internship β Green & Away is looking for several passionate and hardworking individuals to join the summer internship programme across six departments:
- catering
- events
- hospitality
- office management
- technical and maintenance
- sustainability and education
The roles described below are a general overview of duties and responsibilities. These roles are flexible and may be adapted to suit both the needs of the organisation and the skills and interests of the candidates.
Green & Away is an entirely volunteer run organisation. As an educational charity, teaching our interns has been an integral part of our work for over ten years. All interns are expected to stay on site throughout the season and are provided with three vegetarian meals a day and a space to pitch their own tent. There are regular days off and some opportunities for off site group activities, for example canoeing or visiting like minded eco businesses, during quieter periods of the season.
About Green & Away
Green & Away is a tented sustainable non profit events venue based in Worcestershire, available to hire for conferences, courses, celebrations and eco camping. Established in 1990, we are also an educational charity and aim to inspire and encourage environmental and social change through experiential learning and sustainable living in practice.
Duration and travel
All internships are planned to start on 15th June 2020 (date to be confirmed nearer the time) and end in mid August. Successful applicants will camp on site for the duration of the placement and will have one or two days off a week depending on workload. Green & Away is located about 3 miles from Worcester, which has a main line rail station and buses that come to within a few minutesβ walk of our site. Please see our website for updated travel information and current opportunities.
Accommodation and facilities
Green & Away takes place outdoors and under canvas. You will need your own tent, although we may be able to arrange one for you if you cannot bring one and you let us know in advance. Full board is provided (three vegetarian meals a day and regular tea breaks with cake). The site has hot showers, clothes washing facilities and composting toilets. A licensed bar, comfortable sitting areas and arts and crafts facilities are set up as the site is built. There is WiFi and phone or laptop charging facilities.
Please note that when you first arrive the field will be almost empty (although toilets and showers will already be operating), so please be prepared for a gradual build up of the site.
Although Green & Away is set up on the outskirts of a small village near Worcester, the nearest shop and post office are about two miles away.
Costs transparency
Green & Away does not pay any of its volunteers, trustees or interns. We provide three vegetarian meals a day to everyone volunteering on site. Your main costs throughout the internship are your travel to and from the site and any drinks or snacks you choose to buy from the bar.
