Staying in Bern โ€“ community-run volunteer stay (Switzerland)

We discovered Staying in Bern via our Facebook group and confirmed details on their website. Itโ€™s a free, peer-run social project with a small shared โ€œStaying Houseโ€ in central Bern. Guests contribute time and simple tasks to keep the space alive and welcoming.

What the project is about

A grassroots, community-run shared house in the heart of Bern. Inclusive vibe (students, refugees, LGBTQIA+, digital nomads and locals). No bed fee: you โ€œpayโ€ by participating and helping the project. The focus is social connection, welcoming newcomers, and keeping light online/offline communications running.

What youโ€™ll do

Greet and orient new arrivals, keep shared areas friendly and tidy, answer messages, help with basic coordination, and join everyday โ€œsmall tasks.โ€ If you prefer online support, you can help with messaging, simple content updates, or light IT/website tweaks. Reliability and a positive, social attitude matter most.

How it works
Short arrival period (about 2โ€“3 days) to see if thereโ€™s a fit. Typical stays are at least two weeks, with possible extension if you keep contributing. Beds are shared and limited; expect a simple urban stay and respect for basic house guidelines.
Exchange & timeframe

There is no accommodation fee. In return, you contribute time to daily tasks and the social life of the project. Minimum stay: ~2 weeks (longer stays by agreement). Exact tasks and timing are decided together and may change with the needs of the house.

Location
