Today, we’re sharing a hospitality exchange that came through our FB community: Hostel Flakos, a small project in Playa Blanca, Zihuatanejo (Guerrero, Mexico), is looking for a volunteer couple willing to stay longer than one month. The arrangement is a straightforward hostel volunteer exchange in Mexico – hands-on help in return for a private place to live and time to enjoy the beach.
The project & what you’ll do
Flakos is under construction and needs steady, practical help.
Most of the work turns around wooden builds (think small cabins and a deck/terrace) plus keeping shared areas clean, looking after the dogs, and being around when the owners are off-site. It’s the kind of placement that suits two people who like simple routines, small wins, and working with their hands. The beach is a minute away; shops and places to eat are close.
What’s included
Volunteers are offered a private bungalow with air conditioning, a king-size bed, and a private bathroom. There’s a food dispenser/pantry stocked so you can cook your own meals, and you can use the hostel’s pool. The atmosphere is relaxed; noise and nightlife are limited in this part of Playa Blanca.
Hours, rhythm, and season
Plan on 4 hours a day, 5 days a week, with two days free to surf, kayak, snorkel, paddle board, or just walk long, quiet stretches of beach. Visiting animal shelters nearby is also possible if that’s your thing.
Start dates are flexible; the request is for stays longer than one month.
Who this fits
A couple comfortable with basic tools and light maintenance; people who like dogs; tidy, reliable, and fine with quiet evenings. Spanish helps, but isn’t required if you’re patient and practical.
