Volunteer experience in a Monkey sanctuary

Wild Futures Monkey Sanctuary is a charity based in Cornwall.

We rescue and rehabilitate primates from the UK pet trade. We are in need of volunteers year-round to help care for our ever-growing number of residents.

Update September 2020

UK Monkey Sanctuary needs volunteers for winter months!!

Wild Futures is a charity that rescues and rehabilitates primates from the UK pet trade. As a welfare organisation, we rely on volunteers to help maintain the high standard of care we like to provide for the monkeys that live here permanently. We are looking for volunteers for October, November, and December 2020 for preferably 4 week+ placements. We are currently not taking 2-week placements, unfortunately, as a way to limit foot traffic on-site, but if you are able to complete 2 weeks please do let us know anyway as we may be able to take the occasionally few.

We cannot take volunteers that are not UK residents, as we have no space to isolate people for two weeks prior to you starting your placement, so apologies but UK residents only.

Tasks

As a volunteer, you will help:

  • clean monkey enclosures,
  • prepare food and create enrichment items.
  • In addition, you will also be asked to help with any site work such as painting, gardening and maintenance repairs.

Location

We are located in beautiful Cornwall so you will be able to enjoy sea views whilst on-site, but also local attractions nearby on days off. As a social community, this is a great place to meet new people, make friends and help contribute to the welfare of some very special primates!

If you are interested please do email. See contact details down below.

NOTE:

You will be provided with all PPE including a face mask, shield gloves, overalls and wellington boots.

Come as an ESC volunteer

Some of our placements are funded by the European Commission under the European Solidarity Corps.

This means that if you apply as an ESC volunteer your food, travel, and accommodation are paid for.

You will even receive a small amount of pocket money each week. This means you will be volunteering for free! (But only if you apply through ESC).

How long and when

Our placements range from 2 weeks, 4 weeks and 8 weeks, but they do fill up fast, so they are given on a β€˜first come first’ serve basis.

Currently, July is full, however, we have lots of placements inΒ  November and December 2019

Activities

The work is physically hard so we need committed volunteers with an affinity to animals. This is a real working experience and you will leave with not only a working knowledge of how to care for rescued primates but also on how to live sustainability through the practices we use here.

As it takes a lot of time and money to organize, we only ask volunteers who are serious and committed to applying.
