Dog shelter in Morocco – Hey, dear animal lovers! Chaouen Beldi Refuge, a new Shelter for strays in the Rif mountains in Morocco is desperately searching for volunteers to join the team, the best for a longer time!
We’re located in Akchour, very quiet and only a few farmers as neighbours. We’re about 18km from Chefchaouen, a beautiful, touristic city in the north of Morocco in the Rif mountains.
Beneath waterfalls and monkeys, there are a lot of strays who suffer right now around us. That’s why I need help!!!
Activities:
- I need help with the treatment of the dogs in the dog shelter, so you really have to love dogs!!!
- Driving to the vets, rescues, mass feedings and on. It’s important you have a driver’s licence.
Accommodation & other amenities
You’ll have a room in the shelter house and access to a Caravan. Internet is cheap for your phone here. The food is really cheap and we have a kitchen to cook. It’s Africa and we have no hot water, but during the day it’s warm. Also, we only have a little electricity.
Requirements
So all you need is a
- passport,
- a driver’s licence,
- rabies and tetanus vaccines,
- being at least 23 years old,
- a lot of love for dogs and the time to stay at least 3 weeks.
Free time
In your free time, you can relax, go climbing, swim in the near, clean river or have a hike. The ocean is a 45min drive through the mountains away. Chefchaouen, the blue city is not far and we have a caravan. I build the shelter up myself and took care of almost 20 dogs (more incoming), most of them puppies, injured from the streets. It’s important you love dogs and really want to help. Cause we need help.

Hello, dear Voluntourists! We are Mourad’s Refuge, a Tetouan based Refuge for strays from Tetouan, Morocco and around. We are the first volunteers and only 4 helpers right now. Me, Leeny, Adil, Mona and of course Mourad: the house owner and an Animal Lover ❤

General info
We need help with the dogs, and people able to build dog houses and so on. We also welcome someone who does the same as us (rescuing dogs). It’s important that you are not scared of the presence of dogs and dirt. And remember it’s Africa. It’s a different world! 😊 You can help as long as you want. We’re lucky with any helping hand. Work activities

We have a room for you there in the house.

Diet
We cook ourselves or we eat outside. Food is very good and cheap in Morocco.
Fees
No fees. But volunteers have to provide their own food.
VISA
No, we cannot help with visas but we can offer assistance. Visa can be 3 months long.

Describe the geographic environment
We are not in the centre but also not far away from the city. We are in a local village with rare tourists. Around us is a lot of green grass.

Flights are very cheap to Morocco with Ryanair. Start from 30 euros.
