An integrative community project in the heart of Carinthia that offers plenty of space for development and creativity! “We offer the possibility of either short-term or long-term living.”
In the region of Kärnten, Austria, an exciting opportunity is beckoning for those who seek more than just a visit but an immersive community experience. The “Live Together” project at Mittagskogel is now inviting volunteers and short-term residents to join a vibrant living and working community until October 2024.
This initiative offers individuals from everywhere around the world a chance to engage in a shared living environment, and foster connections as well as enriching experiences.

Live Together volunteer exchange
The project seeks enthusiastic participants ready to dive into various roles, from
- general site management
- kitchen duties
- gardening
- landscaping.
Additionally, volunteers will have the opportunity to design and lead activities for both children and adults. By doing this they will significantly contribute to the local community atmosphere.
One of the project coordinators shared,
“We’re looking for people who not only want to help but also live and learn together with people from diverse backgrounds. It’s about building something bigger than ourselves.”
Expectations
During their stay, volunteers can expect to be part of a collaborative effort in preparing the site for an upcoming renovation phase, scheduled to last about two years. Those interested in longer-term involvement, including during the renovation or seeking affordable housing options, are also encouraged to reach out.

Are you keen to spend the summer (from May to the end of September) in the south of Austria? Right on the border with Italy and Slovenia. At the foot of the Mittagskogel, on the beautiful Faaker See in Carinthia??

Do you enjoy managing a lively kitchen in a community, together with volunteers, community residents, and people from all over the world? Taking on your OWN responsibility there and still having plenty of free time and your own space?
We are looking for someone from May to the end of September to take on responsibility in the kitchen area. You only need to cook partly yourself; it’s mainly about overseeing and organizing.
We prepare food three times a day for about 50 people. This is not a tourist season job. We are a community project. Your tasks should not exceed 4 hours per day.
Your task would be to allocate people where needed, create order in the kitchen, dry storage, and cold storage, place orders, meet HACCP guidelines, manage waste, and ensure cleanliness.

Food and Accommodation / benefits
We offer you accommodation in a former family hotel. You have your own room with bathroom and toilet. We live here with about 40 adults and 20 children in this beautiful place. It is colorful and full of diversity. We also offer you food and drinks free of charge. Additionally, we are well integrated into the regional association landscape with many events etc. that you can participate in.
There is a beautiful swimming pond on site and lakes all around that are accessible on foot or by bike, as well as hiking opportunities.
We would also be happy to welcome a couple or active retirees who have time to help us over the summer. It is important to us that it is someone who can really stay with us for a longer period of time.
Conditions
- Drugs and excessive alcohol are not welcome here.
- Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate pets either.
