Stipend positions – Six-month commitment required

Thanda’s Early Childhood Development Team is currently looking for four volunteers to work in our ECD in South Africa. Volunteers will assist ECD Facilitators in the classroom, particularly assisting with dual language activities. Thanda is located in a rural area of KwaZulu-Natal South Africa, and thus and both the children’s’ and facilitators’ home language is Zulu. Through this programme, we are looking to expose children to English from an early age. We are therefore seeking fun, enthusiastic, and positive first-language English-Speaking volunteers to intern with us.

As this role is an assisting rather than a teaching role, volunteers do not need any formal teaching background or qualifications, but this is a great opportunity for anyone wishing to work as an ECD facilitator to gain exposure to the classroom. Volunteers with a proven interest in ECD or working with young children (ages 2-5) will be preferred.

Internship in South Africa

Interns will gain experience in the classroom and will get exposed to Thanda’s original ECD curriculum that encourages creative exploration and play while building strong foundational learning and social-emotional skills.

Thanda…

…is a dynamic Non-Profit Organisation which has three core programmes – Early Childhood Development, After-School, and Organic Farming. Our Creative Learning Curricula is the common thread throughout all of our programmes. We focus on the holistic development of the individual so that he or she develops the skills essential for facing challenges with resilience, becoming a life-long learner, taking responsibility for our collective future, and becoming better citizens of the world. The Creative Learning Programme also aims to change the way educators and facilitators approach the learning process through training, knowledge sharing, and public advocacy.

Life on the south coast

Thanda is based in Hibberdene, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, about one hour’s drive south of Durban city centre. Volunteers typically stay in Pumula, a village just south of Hibberdene along the coast of the Indian Ocean. This is a perfect opportunity for someone looking for a seaside lifestyle; swimming, surfing, hiking, and simply enjoying the beautiful nature on the South Coast. The culture at Thanda is one of passion, energy, hard work, resilience, and a good sense of humour.
