Volunteer at Medieval Week in Sweden, on the island of Gotland
Medeltidsveckan is a historic festival held in Visby, a beautiful medieval city on Gotland, Sweden. The festival is known for its performances, markets, music, bars, costumes, activities and warm community atmosphere. Each year, around 300 volunteers help make the event possible.
This opportunity may suit travellers who enjoy cultural festivals, history, practical teamwork and community life. The volunteer team includes many different roles, so not every task is the same. Some volunteers may help with information, visitor support, practical logistics, setup, teardown, festival areas, workshops or other behind-the-scenes tasks.
The organisers are looking for people who can commit to a minimum of 25 hours, usually around five shifts. Volunteers should be communicative, read the volunteer handbook, follow the code of conduct and attend a start-up meeting on site before their first shift if they are helping during the festival.
This is a large and active festival environment, so volunteers should expect real responsibilities, busy days and plenty of contact with other people. At the same time, the opportunity offers a chance to experience the festival from the inside and become part of a large volunteer community.
