Camp leader volunteering in Iceland (Worldwide Friends / Veraldarvinir)
Worldwide Friends (Veraldarvinir, WF) runs international workcamps and longer volunteer placements across Iceland. Camp leaders support groups of volunteers during short projects (usually 10โ14 days) and help with coordination, daily routines, and logistics. The working language is English, and the experience is outdoors-focused, community-based, and very hands-on. WF publishes updated openings and application instructions on their website, so it is best to check the official pages before you apply.
Requirements (always confirm the current criteria)
In a previous call for camp leaders, WF asked for applicants who are 21+ years old, have a driving licence, and speak good English. Current requirements may differ depending on the placement and season, so please confirm them via the official website.

The volunteer exchange
Accommodation and food are typically provided during WF volunteer programmes. Camps and placements vary by location and season, and participants are expected to share daily chores (cooking and cleaning) as part of community living. WF also organises excursions and free-time activities; costs can depend on the programme.
Short-term volunteer opportunities
Short-term volunteers join a chosen workcamp with an international group, usually for 10 days up to 2 weeks. Projects differ by location and theme, and camp leaders coordinate the day-to-day flow of the camp together with the WF team.
Long-term volunteer opportunities (camp leader placements)
If you want to stay longer than a couple of weeks, WF also hosts longer placements where you may take part as a camp leader for several months, supporting multiple workcamps and helping with planning, coordination, and project follow-up. WF recommends checking their official long-term volunteering page for current dates, roles, and expectations.
Please note: This volunteer project listing may be outdated. Information regarding availability, dates, tasks, and requirements might no longer be accurate. We recommend contacting the hosts directly to confirm the projectโs current status.
