Buddhist Meditation Centre – Places now available from February 2019 and onwards – we look forward to hearing from you.

Message from the host

Hi everyone! Welcome to Nagarjuna Centre in Leicester. We are a Buddhist Meditation Centre set in the heart of Leicester city centre in England, only one and a half hours from London. We have a large meditation room, modern en-suite rooms and a World Peace Cafe, host regular meditation classes, courses and special events promoting the development of inner peace, compassion and wisdom. The centre is open to the public and welcomes anyone – Buddhist or non-Buddhist. There’s a mixed age range of residents living here and a thriving community.

Activities

We are looking for volunteers to help in our World Peace Cafe, household, painting, office work and cleaning – there are many activities.

The main work is at our vegetarian World Peace Cafe, where you can help with serving, making drinks, making food and so forth and we will provide full training and no experience is necessary. In our rota we also include cleaning up common areas, helping at the front office, helping during our classes, taking out publicity locally, helping our events or whatever else we need help with. Training will be provided. We are a community, so we try to keep people involved in all our activities. We encourage everyone to work harmoniously, supporting each other and as a team.

Accommodation

We offer accommodation consisting of two beds and an en suite with 3 meals a day. Our volunteer team is made of people from across the world.

A free en-suite accommodation, vegetarian meals and laundry are offered to our helpers.

The Hospitality Exchange at the Buddhist Meditation Centre

As our guest and helper, you will be able to attend our meditation classes and courses for free in return for 35 hours per week.

There are short-term and long-term opportunities available from a minimum of three weeks stay. All our classes and meditations are free for working visitors, and we ask our volunteers to attend at least one class per week.

Rules

We do have rules such as no alcohol, drugs, TV, loud music or meat/fish on-site, and also require a reference.

Update for 2019

We enjoy welcoming working visitors/volunteers from different countries of the world including our own country.  We work as a team here and enjoy learning about other cultures as well as all the similarities we all have.

People have the opportunity to attend classes and to talk to experienced Buddhists and meditators.

We are located in a very central area, so you have everything that you need only a few minutes to walk from our building, and it is a city centre full of events, cafes and a local market
