Archived page for transparency (not an active opportunity)
This post was originally published in 2018 as a host-submitted volunteering listing. We have not verified this organisation and we are not making claims about its legitimacy. We are keeping the page online only as an archive and to explain how our editorial policy has changed over time.Today, Voluntouring.org does not publish or promote opportunities that may involve direct access to vulnerable minors or residential childcare settings, because we cannot reliably assess safeguarding standards from a public listing alone. Please read our policy and safer alternatives here: volunteering with children: safer alternatives.

What changed since 2018
This page is no longer a call for volunteers. Contact prompts and direct recruiting details have been removed to avoid encouraging travel into sensitive contexts based on incomplete information.

Archived listing (2018): volunteer in Tanzania, Glory Orphans Centre

This is an archived version of an older listing submitted by a representative of “Glory Orphans Centre”. The goal of this updated page is to preserve the historical record while applying Voluntouring.org’s current ethical standards. It is not an evaluation of the organisation.

Why this page is archived (our editorial policy, not a judgment)

Over the years, child safeguarding guidance has become clearer on the risks of short-term visits and volunteer roles that can involve direct access to children in vulnerable situations, especially where a placement is marketed to travellers. Even with good intentions on all sides, it can be difficult for an external platform to verify safeguarding procedures, supervision, recruitment standards, and child privacy protections from a listing.

For that reason, Voluntouring.org no longer publishes or promotes listings that may involve direct contact with vulnerable minors or residential childcare settings. This is a preventative policy designed to reduce risk for children, communities, and participants. It does not mean an organisation is illegitimate.

If you want to help in Tanzania, safer directions to consider

If your goal is to contribute responsibly in Tanzania, consider opportunities that do not rely on casual access to children and that have clear roles, supervision, and transparent costs. Many travellers choose community projects with defined tasks (for example environmental conservation, community agriculture, skills-based support, or construction projects not centered on child contact). If you are motivated to support children, look for programs that strengthen families and community services rather than institutional care.

If any role includes contact with minors (for example in a school), prioritise strong safeguarding: a clearly defined role, trained supervision, robust screening, written child protection policies, and strict rules on photos and online sharing.
