vierhof, logoThe Vlierhof is an international community in the beautiful surrounds of the Rhineland not far from the border between the Netherlands and Germany. There are 12 long-term residents, several part-time volunteers and, in the summer, with the addition of short-term volunteers expanding up to 25 people from all over the world. We want to contribute to a loving world, where each person can live to their full potential, based on the principles of the International Ecovillage Movement: ecology, community building (NVC), and spirituality.

We have a biodynamic garden (1 hectare) and seminar house, where we organize our own programs and also rent out to workshop givers who are in alignment with our vision. Recently we have also expanded our operations to letting out rooms in the seminar house as a B&B.

The story of our international community

Vlierhof was founded in 2002 by a group of four people who not only wanted to talk about the vision for Ecovillages with the Dutch Ecovillage Network, but wanted to translate this vision into action.ย They sought and eventually found a 3,5 ha large old cow farm in Keeken-Kleve, with which they intended to practice living the vision of ecovillages on the land they had acquired together.

The old cow farm has since been turned into a biodynamic garden and seminar house to sustainably sustain the needs of the international community and its guests.
Workshops are offered by community members and workshop givers, trainers, and educators on topics mostly resolving around growth, creativity, art, spirituality, deep ecology and personal development.

Mission and philosophy
  • EVERYDAY FOR SOME TIME I OFFER MYSELF IN SELFLESS SERVICE.

I do this for the sake of the greater good; for the community, or for humanity, or for the planet. I recognize selfless service as an important practice of integrating the ego and becoming part of a greater sea, developing humility, and helping others shine.

  • PRACTICE SELF-LEADERSHIP.

โ€“ I, and only I, am the master of my own life. My pain, my emotions, my growth process, my energy level and my destiny are in my own hands, and not in the hands of others. When I want space, I firmly but lovingly claim it with a smile. My truth or ideology is mine to own, and I seek permission before I confront others with it.

  • I SEE AND TREAT ALL AS DIVINE.

โ€“ I do not indulge in the judgments of others, I am inclusive, and I look at others with compassion, I do not think or say bad of others because I understand that such thoughts only make me miserable. My physical space is my temple, I treat it with the same care I give to my most valuable personal possessions. I extend kindness to our land and its plants & animals.

  • Every day I TAKE TIME FOR PERSONAL GROWTH.

โ€“ In Vlierhof, we are bound together by our commitment to personal growth. Some of us take time for self-reflection, others for meditation, yet others for yoga, healing sessions, reading or watching tutorials on personal growth, or use other resources coming our way. Every week, I join at least 2 Councils to invigorate my growth, learn from others, and step into my true being.

  • IN EVERY OCCASION I SEEK THE 3rd WAY.

โ€“ I look for answers others donโ€™t see. Where others see gloom, I see a world full of infinite possibilities. Where others focus on the end, I look for new beginnings. I have an overwhelming optimism about the future, and in the face of adversities, I always sport an abundant mindset. I understand that my ideas can always be improved by others.
